About the Colorway (Joyous Gard: 6 stripes)

This “ROY G BIV” rainbow colorway is perfect for any bright and happy knitting projects you may have planned! Life is short - why not knit a few more rainbows?

The Story Behind the Colorway Name

Joyous Gard (previously named Dolorous Gard) was Lancelot's castle where he took Guenevere after rescuing her when she was sentenced to be burned at the stake (because of their adultery). They are able to spend a little time together there before they must face the reality of their situation. When Lancelot dies, he is buried at this castle and the former name, Dolorous Gard (sorrow), returns. But for a time, he and Guenevere are happy, so these bright, happy colors fit with that small bit of time shared by the lovers.
