About the Colorway (A generous offer)
This colorway walks the line between blue, and pink - sometimes dipping a toe into one or the other, but maintaining an overall image of honorable purple. From a distance, it’s a vibrant, bold plum color; up close, it has streaks of pink and blue throughout, giving this colorway depth and interest.
The Story Behind the Colorway Name
Guenevere has been accused of adultery, and Lancelot must fight against Meleagant to save her. The two knights start their fight on horseback, but Lancelot swiftly knocks the other man off his horse, taking the battle to the ground. After a short time, Lancelot hits Meleagant hard on his helmet, causing the man to collapse. Meleagant cries out for mercy, and Lancelot is torn. Should he give mercy (which would be honorable since Meleagant has asked for it) or should he finish him off (which would show once and for all that Guenevere is innocent—at least of the specific crime she was accused of). He looks to Guenevere who indicates that Lancelot should finish Meleagant.
But Lancelot wants to give the other man one more chance, so he orders him to rise and finish the battle. Meleagant refuses, saying that he will not rise until Lancelot accepts that he has yielded (and therefore will not kill him). That’s when Lancelot makes a generous offer: he will remove his helmet and the armor on the left side of his body and will tie his left arm behind his back, basically handicapping himself to give Meleagant the advantage. Meleagant agrees to these terms.
They continue their fight, with Lancelot’s left side undefended and useless. When Meleagant goes in to attack, Lancelot strikes fast with his sword, once again hitting Meleagant’s head, this time splitting his helm (and head). In this way, Lancelot was able to show mercy (by allowing Meleagant to have a true chance against him) while at the same time proving Guenevere’s innocence to the charge.
