About the Colorway (Petitcrieu)
A rich, indigo purple color with strong blue undertones. This bold blue-purple is sure to cheer you up and bring style to any project! This tonal colorway shifts from lights to darks along the same blue-violet base. (Note: This is very much a purple color, but it is hard to capture the color accurately on camera. So if you are seeing something blue, although it is a blue-leaning purple, this yarn is very much purple rather than blue.)
The Story Behind the Colorway Name
Tristan and Isolde’s love affair has almost been discovered, so Tristan leaves so they can keep their secret. He ends up in Duke Gilan’s court but spends much of his time moping. Gilan, however, has a cure for that: his little dog Petitcrieu. Gilan sends for the dog, which is placed on top of a large purple cloth. The dog, a gift from Avalon, is under an enchantment and wears a gold chain with a bell attached to it. When the bell sounds, it immediately cheers everyone who hears it. Tristan is so gladdened by the dog, he is determined to possess it so he can send it as a gift to Isolde. He defeats a giant and receives the dog as a gift.
Tristan sends the dog off to Isolde with a note. In her response, Isolde begs Tristan to return to court. As for the dog, Isolde doesn’t like having her love pangs banished by the sound of the bell, so she breaks the bell off the collar, renewing her feelings of sorrow, which she seems to take pleasure in feeling. The sorrow doesn’t last long as Tristan soon returns to court, and the two lovers renew their affair.
